Hi I knew I was going to get that Question. This is our first boat a 24' Godfrey pontoon. It came with a 28 hp Johnson on it and we want to pull the kids on tubes. So I needed another motor. It came on a Godfrey Hurricane deck boat which is a nice boat and in time I will rebuild it. But when I got it home I found the cover for it froze to the floor covered in Pine tree crap. The floor is rotted and it had about 50 to 100 gallons of water in the bottom. It is so disappointing that people are so lazy - ignorant that they couldn't even cover the boat and its a nice heavy full cover. So I am not to confident in the maintenance done on the motor.
So anyway there was oil in the gas in the tank on the boat and the alarm wire was cut. Checked the alarms and they both work fine. I put a new water pump impeller in, thermostat, changed the LU oil, new plugs, cleaned the carbs, scoped the piston bores no scratches or broken ring lances, and did a compression test 120 psi + or - 2 psi on all 3 cylinders.
I plan on tearing the motor down next winter and at least check the bore most likely new pistons, bearings, and a hone or bore job. I have no history on the motor and we will only run it maybe 10 days this summer. I have what appears to be a half way decent base to start with I just want to make sure I dont have issues this summer.
So I think i would feel more confident just using pre mix.
