I need help getting a good ground on my Merc 140

I neeed to find a better or good spot to attach the ground cable from my battery to my block.
The ground was attached to the block at the back but it snapped off. When I tried to remove the bolt it was to long it hit the back of the rear fire wall so I have to find a new place to attach the ground.
Help....

There should be other threaded holes on the block that you can attach a ground to. Just clean it down to the bare metal, and bolt it on. Really it does not matter where the ground is, as long it is a good, clean connection.

Coat the block area around the hole, the bolt, and the crimped eye on the end of the cable with dielectric or silicone grease just before you tighten it for long lasting corrosion prevention.

Really it does not matter where the ground is, as long it is a good, clean connection. Rob.

best bet is to use a 3/8 x 18 threaded hole. smaller can work such as 5/16th but not ideal, and more 7/16ths is a bit big, but fine. be sure it is good and tight. usually at least 20 ft lbs. there are some unused bolt holes usually on side and in front of engine. "cant have too many grounds", imo. extra grounds off elec items, such as sbc/marine alt can be beneficial. most only run ground off mounting brkts, etc. but grounding the case can help. i oft will run a short starter cable as a case ground off an alt to the engine or solid engine point.

the dielectric grease will help promote electron transfer betwenn the connections and ensure no corrosion.
