I Need Help...Nissan 25

I've got a 2005 Nissan 25 2 stroke. I just took my boat out and when I was at wide open throttle it fell flat on its face! It done this like five times. It seemed to idle ok and when I was at half throttle it done good most of the time, it died once. It rained a lot last week so I don't know if some water might have got in my gas? Does this sound like possible water in the gas? What else might I check? I need your help. Thanks a lot for your future responses.

What is your model/serial? A 2005 US model should be a 4-stroke. If you have a 25A, it has 3 carbs. The 25B is fuel injected. Totally different animals. But... regardless of whether it's an A or a B, it should have an external 10-micron water-separating filter in the fuel line. If not, it's a good idea to add one. If it does have one, change the cartridge.

That said, your problem could be almost anything, but is likely a fuel issue. Especially if the problem began after heavy rains. Flush the entire fuel system out with fresh gas: tank, lines, filters, carbs (if so equipped), and if a fuel-injected B model, you will want to flush/purge the fuel pump, fuel rail, and vapor separator. If you have a B, the procedure is detailed in the Factory service manual, available from any dealer, including me.

After you are sure the fuel system has good, fresh gas, you will probably be OK.

If not mistaken, that's a 2 cylinder, one carb model, if so, just check what Paul recommends.

After a little research I believe that my trouble is in the fuel line fittings. It seemed like the motor would run at wot long enough to run the gas out of the carb and fuel line. If there was water in the fuel it wouldn't run good at any speed right? Has anyone had trouble with the Nissans quick connect fittings on the tank or engine?

The fuel fittings are pretty reliable, but foreign crud can damage an O-ring, allowing air into the line. If you pump the bulb and it doesn't weep at the motor, that connector should be good. The tank ends aren't dosconnected as often, so tend to last longer.

Assuming it's a 2 strokes, 2 cylinder, one carb model engine ;

If having gas problems ; items to check :

1-Unscrew interior tank fuel filter off, remove existing gas, clean tank interior and filter as well, reassemble. Check removed gas for water intrussion, debris, gas station tank crap passed to you

2-Connect connector to tank, remove engine connector, with point object push connector to open spring valve all the way down, squeeze primer bulb several times, check flow, if poor, obstructed line or primer bulb, if good volume, ok.

3-Place engine connector back on engine, release gas filter from mount, place a container under, squeeze primer bulb hard, if poor flow, small hose obstruction, if good, ok.

4-Gas pump, check diaphragms for wear or collapsed, clean, change, check back pump gasket for wear, clean engine body pump small suction hole, tight well all pump screws.

5-Quick disconnect fittings are very reliable. If still with problems, perform a good & complete carb clean.
