I Need Help Removing clutch dog, forward gear & prop shaft

I have a 1990 evinrude v4 100hp. VE100SLESB 20' shaft. I am replacing the clutch dog & forward gear. I have the water pump off, prop shaft bearing housing off, reverse gear off, and drive shaft off My problem is I can not remove the prop shaft, clutch dog & forward gear. I need to remove the clutch dog pin. How do I remove the clutch dog spring without damaging it so the pin can slide out!
Your help would be extremely appreciated, Ed

after I removed the prop bearing housing & reverse gear I unbolted the pinnion gear & removed drive shaft. then removed pinnion gear. now all that is left to remove is the prop shaft, clutch dog, & forward gear. i look down drive shaft housing and see the clutch dog has a spring wraped around it in a groove holding the clutch dog pin in place thru the clutch dog & shift shaft. I can't seem to be able to remove that spring without damaging it. is there a way to gently remove it. i'm so close but stuck at this point. would greatly appreciate any advise you can offer me and thank you for your response.

Remove the2 large snap rings, and shift rod. Spring does need to be remove until shaft is out of case.

That was it!! the shift rod needed to be shifted down then removed. damn i feel dumb...sometimes it's the little details that cause the biggest problems. thanks for your help!!!
