Hello everyone, My son saw this boat on the highway shoulder and fell in love. We all did until we put it in the water. Of course we really got lot of attention and compliments. It was a classic maybe but It started having a mind of its own and the scary episodes followed and the little fella got real sad because the boat wasn't working and he was missing on fishing. First it was the starter that got burned out, then the throttle cable breaking couples times, then the snapping of the steering wheel cables couple of times too and started going in direction of the rocks. We started thinking the darn boat is plain cursed and wanted to kill us! but I just don't want to give it up. After all isn't it just a bunch of controls that needed to be adjusted? My kid lost confidence and won't board it no more.
My questions are:
1- Is there any good reference on how to rewire/fix the steering wheel cables. Or where can can get a new kit that won't go out of control?
2- I Would like to have a windshield installed. Is there anyone who knows where I can get one? I saw in a different post about Naden like mine the skipper was able to get something that was compatible. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=273311&highlight=naden+boat

That's the 2 questions I have so far and any help is appreciated. Thanks.

You can replace the cable steering with regular pvc coated cable from LOWE's or replace the entire steering system with a new single cable teleflex system. You can Goofle teleflex to find out more about it. Windshields for these old boats are hard to come by by can be found on Craigslist or Ebay at times, or... you could make your own.

Thank you. The windshield link is pretty neat.

I checked out Teleflex's site and there were so many kits to choose from. Could advise me? All I need is something reliable that won't break my budget and that I can do myself.

Thanks

You need to go to their site and investigate how to measure for the correct length of cable for your setup. Once you have determined the length you need then I'd recommend the Teleflex Marine Safe-T QC? Rotary Steering Kit. Less than $150 bucks and very dependable system if you keep it greased and maintained on an annual basis.
