Hi i have a 1989 30hp evinrude. the problem is there is no spark in the top cylinder. i switched the coils/spark plugs/wires and still only got spark in the bottom cylinder. so they are all good. my biggest question is if i take my flywheel off to check everything does it mess with the timing at all? and does it sound like i need to take a look at that stuff?

Re: i need help!!!!!

So you did change the coils. How did you change them without taking the flywheel off. You do need to take flywheel off and check the points. Taking the flywheel off does not change timing. But you will need a flywheel puller. A good amount of time it is the points.

Metty, it's a 1989 motor with an electronic ignition. No points.

Re: i need help!!!!!

You don't need to take the flywheel off.
Do you have a manual that will step you through the ignition troubleshooting procedure?
