Ok guys here is my story. I have a 1973 16' super sport that was my first mates grandfather's he bought it new. i bought it in 1999 after he passed away very nice boat but now showing its age. and i might have to sell it. i would really like to keep it but time are tough and i could use the money. what would be a fair price. i just found this site and you guys are making it real hard to sell this boat after seeing what you can do with these boats. has a 85 hp merc with SS prop and power tilt and trim. i put a new transom it it year before last. i think you could get one more year out of the floor then would need to do the whole thing.can you guys tell me what the cost is to go through the whole thing paint and all . and if i do put it on clist where should i start. how about 1800.
is that to high. thanks. 100_0119.jpg100_0116.jpg100_0117.jpg100_0120.jpg

Two quick questions...

Where on the planet are you located? Yup, makes a difference.

How is that 85hp Merc running?

To keep and rebuild it yourself you are looking at anywhere from a couple hundred to a couple thousand depending how frugal/spendy you are. Honestly, you can spent very little or a whole lot on these rigs.

Cheers!

It should be running great it did last year. have not had it out this year yet. I am in eastern Kansas Topeka. I had the motor worked on last year had a new power pac put and it was running great. It will pull a skier just fine. I just ordered a new gas line and some lower unit gear oil as the gas line was getting stiff and i will change out the lower unit oil.

OK kacrow, Kansas. I think we can kinda consider that Midwest boat pricing. What that basically means is you would have a tough time squeezing $1800 out of it. If the motor was running like a champ and you lived on the left coast, no problem. By the way, "ran great last year" hurts your cause. "Runs great, happy to start it up for you" is money in the bank.

My guess is you are probably in the $1200 ball park. My Starcraft buds will jump in if my assessment is off.

How about just keeping it, running it and having fun!?:D:D:D

kacrow, welcome to the Starcraft Armada(aka Starmada) :)

That's a nice rig, plenty of ways to fix it up without breaking the bank. Keep it!:D

I you're at all interested in boating, it would be unwise to sell a Starcraft SS. Very versatile boat that is easy to tow, maintain and own. As Jason said, you can really spend whatever you want restoring these. Exterior plywood sealed with porch and floor paint would get the job done in a pinch. Pedestal seating is cheap from BassPro/Wal-Mart etc. Lots of ways to do it frugally and still reliably get out on the water.

Re: I need help

Exmobee is 100% right. Let?s look at the positive things to this boat.

1973 16' super sport ? check
First mates grandfather's he bought it new ? check
85 hp merc with SS prop and power tilt and trim ? check
New power pac - check
New transom ? check

Now the negatives

Needs new floor ? check
Needs leg oil changed ? check
Needs new fuel line ? check
Needs new battery - check
Need the cash ? check

So far the way I see it is you have a great boat that will last more than one lifetime. Something that it has been proven to be able to do. Keep the thing in the family one way or another as cash comes and goes but boats like this have value beyond mere money.

Don?t know if you have kids but if you do, you owe it to them to keep it, even if you have to park it for a couple of seasons.

Good luck with your boat kacrow. You've come to the wrong place if you're looking for someone to talk you into selling a boat. You'll have way more than $1800 worth of fun before it's all over.
You selling that cat whole or by the pound?
Enjoy!

Re: I need help

I am going to sell him by the pound but give me a week or two to put some weight on him. As i was looking at the papers on my boat this weekend to get the numbers updated found out she is a 76. I can not understand how you guys could not see that. as i was looking at the pictures online i could find it did not match anything i was seeing. so great i have a 76er parts should come today hope i can buy a battery then i will get it started. i got all the old vinyl out waiting on wood to dry before i put the new carpet down. the wood is pretty bad but should be ok for one more year.cant wait to get it on the water.

As for your thread title, we all do. A lot of us should probably be locked up, why else would we put ourselves thu these restorations. If I was home I could tell you what those seats cost. I have them in my Crestliner. Bought the first 2 at Cabellas, and then found the same exact seat for less than 1/2 at Wally World. The boat definitely looks like a keeper to me, and welcome to the lunacy here.
