1987 100 hp comercial v4 johnson. Wont pass over 5,000rpm. I use a 14x17 prop (which is the factory prop) and i pull a montauk 17 Boston whaler. MPH in the speedometer read 38 with 2 people onboard. Should i get more RPM's or stay here? I read in some posts of Guru's that a good reading would be 5,800rpm. I seem to be to far down. I know if a put another prop rpm's would change, but which prop?

Assuming you have the original gearcase you should be able to run a fairly high X dimension using a prop with that much diameter.

We also are assuming the motor is running corrctly and is indeed reaching WOT (wide open throttle). IE -- the linkage goes all the way open.

If this is all true, then try playing with the set up. Raise the motor on the transom and see what results you get with the same prop.

Keep us informed and good luck!
