I need some really good clear tape.

OK here is the deal. On my travel trailer the original wiring for the tail light/marker lights has been cut off. The replacement wires just do the tail lights and lower marker lights. I legally need to get the upper marker lights on the top of the trailer working. The problem I have been having is trying to figure out how to get the wires up there without the wind whipping them off. Even if I run the wires up the back of the trailer and across the top to the front lights they would not survive wind and tree branches very long. So, today I was thinking maybe I could just duct tape them to the outside of the trailer. (yes, I like to duct tape everything lol) . But, that would look like hell with this big gray piece of tape going up the back of the trailer. Besides, duct tape is cheap tape and would not hold out for very long. So what I really need is a transparent tape that sticks well to metal in all types of weather. I only need to run two very small wires up there. Any ideas???

When I rewired my horse trailer, I added some lights inside. I used tape to hold the wires where I wanted them and then used clear silicone to hold them there. Once the silicone set up, I removed the tape. It looks good...and works, too...

Do a search for Nice-Duc....it's a peel and stick solution but the adhesive mounting can be reinforced with pan screws. The duct can be easily opened to rewire or add additional conductors.

All sorts of nice looking ducts at home improvement stores. They're used for house wiring where you can't get into the walls. I believe one of them is called: "Nice Duc", as stated. Most are "peel and stick" and some have clips you mount first.

I'm probably not understanding the setup, but ...

If there are existing top marker lights, at one time there had to have been wiring to them. I'm sure you've tried, but take another look at how the old wiring was run. There's probably some kind of channel or framing with the old wiring. Is there any way you can find an end where it was cut off, and use that to pull new wire? Is there any way to push a fish tape through from top to bottom? The worst possible scenario is to remove the interior finish to open the wall cavity, and run wires there. But even that would be better than exterior surface-mount wiring. There may be extenuating circumstances, but that's what I'd check.

also check the corner and top molding on the outside. You might be able to stuff new wires under the molding. Or if it is like a lot of the travel trailer molding, it might have a removable insert that covers the screws. You could run new wires under that cover.

Well, I do know where the old wires are I haven't tried using them to pull now ones. In fact, I haven't tried just hooking them up to see if the work. I should start there I suppose. As for removing paneling on the inside that would be way too much work. Travel trailers are built like trailer houses form the ground up. There not designed to be taken apart.

The corner molding has been glued into place by about 50 tubes of caulk near as I can tell. I may run the wires near it though and use some clear silicone as bjcsc said.
