I need to remove rear cover latch on 9.9 Evinrude

I am trying to replace a thermostat in a 1985 9.9 Evinrude and I need to remove the rear cover LATCH before I can get the thermostat cover off. How do I take apart the rear cover LATCH? HELP !

It's been awhile but I assume the problem is there isn't enough room to remove the hex bolt from the latch, right? Simply pull the latch handle out of the hole at the same time as you unscrew the bolt. Reassembly takes a bit of fiddleing but can be done.

I can't get a wrench on the hex bolt. There is not enough room.

I got it off. Bolt sheared off. Thanks for getting back to me.
