I use cold galvanizing zinc spray to paint my outdrives. Easy to touch up. Will act as a sacrificial anode as well. Just need to reapply ocassionally.
Any problem with doing this?

Hopefully you will not get any dissimilar metal corrosion between the zinc and aluminum...

If the cold galvanizing is acting as the anode then the zinc material should be sacrificed. The way I see it is that the cold galvanizing should protect the outdrives just like galvanising protects against corrosion.
Any more input would be appreciated.

I would tend to think the industry would have been doing that unless there was a complication.
zinc chromate primer is usually applied to bare aluminum , then the finish coats. why re-invent the wheel?

Ayuh,... I just scrape the crud offa mine once a year or so, 'n give it a coat of Rustoleum industrial enamel....
Black of course,...

A putty knife, piece a cardboard, 'n a rattlecan of Rustoleum black, it's a 1/2 hr. job...
20 minutes maybe...

I think we are missing the point here!!

The cold galvanizing is supposed to be sacrificed. The matt finish is easy to add to and looks like the Volvo gray.
Painting over it defeats the object!
Anyone notice how well a galvanized trailer holds up in salt water?

Yes a galvanized steel trailer... how many aluminum trailers are galvanized? Bondo is saying paint the drive instead of cold galvanize paint. But you sound pretty set on what you are doing...

Re: I/O paint

The question I am trying to get answered is if a sacrificial anode is good then surely a large zinc-coated surface will do an even better job of protecting the drives. (in addition to having sacrificial anodes)
The Rustoleum Cold Galvanizing spray I am using says "for protecting steel and Aluminum."
I am just curious as to why that would not apply to coating an Aluminum outdrive.
