This is on a 1993 Sea Ray 270 Weekender 7.4L Bravo 2 drive. The trim up switch on the throttle control doesn't work to trim up The trim down works. I took it apart and the switch seem ok. I tried to manually make it trim up and nothing. Manually trim down OK. The seperate trailer trim up works ok so it would seem that the trim unit is working in the up direction. The wires have no corrosion and actually look very clean. Any ideas would be welcome. Also the trim indicator on the dash doesn't work.

You could have a bad trim limit switch on the transom which prevents you from trimming up but will let you trim down and is not used for the trailer tilt up circuit and you may also have a bad trim sender also on the transom, 2 separate items although they do look similar.

I'll look for that. Am I able to tell if they are bad while in the boat or do I have to take them out to check? Approx where would they be located?

Bobright! Bad trim limit sw.(at port pivot pin on gimgal ring)Inspect the wires to it for wear, sometime you can remove the cover and clean the contacts.Merc sells a repair pivoting brush/contact assembly if that is all that is wrong.(Comes from water intrusion, seal it!)To replace the entire switch and wiring is a beast !!

I'll look for that if not I guess I need to have it fixed at the shop. It seems it would require removal of the drive.

Yup! IF the wires are bad,the rest can be done fairly simple.

If I have to take it to the shop to remove the outdrive and replace both the sender unit and trim limit what else should I have them do while they have the drive off?

Re: I/O trim up not working

Thanks for helping me with this. I checked the sender and limit units on the outdrive and both had 1 wire off. I took it to the shop and they are replacing those plus any other items the need replaced while the outdrive is off. The mechanic is going to call me when they have the unit off to go over what needs replaced and what is good.

have the gimball bearings and alignment checked. along with all the bellows. just do a full service, you've already paid the labor to pull the outdrive.

yup will be replacing trim and sender units along with shift cable and bellows. The shift cable and belows are operational but would have needed replaced within a year or 2
