Today starts my 9th. month smoke free, and haven't even touched one ciggybutt. The one thing I can't believe is that I did it cold turkey, after all these years of lighting up. I have a new primary care doctor who I had seen one time before I quit smoking. On my second visit I told the doctor that I had quit, cold turkey, with no if's, and's or butt's. I told him I didn't get hypnotized, use stop smoking gum, no patches or anything other than will power. My kids are elated I quit, as is my wife and some close friends, not to mention ME!!!

So it can be done......Just make up your mind and quit, it might be easier for you than you think, I know I was really suprised.

...Bob in Calif... Now showing off my fresh breath, except after happy hour.

Bob, the "hard part" is basically done, but don't be surprised if there are temptations. Then, after about 4 years, even those will be no longer be an issue.

Up until 4 years after quitting I would sometimes "try" to get a wiff of cigarette smoke while passing smokers. Not any more. Now I can't stand it.

My M-I-L smokes. If we visit her for Sunday morning coffee, I usually wear the clothes I wore the day before because by the time we get home those clothes wreak of cigarette residue. They then get thrown in the dirty laundry, and I throw myself into the shower.

You can do it, Bob!! Believe those of us who have gone before you; it is most definitely worth it!!!

Congrats! I quit my 3 pack a day habit 8 years ago, and haven't had a puff since. I quit drinking 11 years ago.
Today, I am just a fatass.

Nice work! I think I'm pretty near that timeframe myself 10-12 months or something. You can see how affected I am this late in the game.. The only smoke I crave nowadays is the BBQ grill :). I quit cold turkey as well. My logical thought is any bad habit should end right away. Name one alcoholic that said "When I went to AA, they put me on the gradual drink myself almost silly program, and I'm no longer addicted!"

I guess the grill analogy works well, seeing as we can both taste the difference, now.. and breath long enough to chop the wood for it.
