I think I bought a boat

Just turned over a nice deposit and signed a sales agreement for a 1990 Sportcraft 232 Fishmaster. 23 foot walk-around boat.

I just have to finish up the financing in a couple days and I will bring it home and post some pics.

But I have to admit, I am having some anxiety tonight. This is a first boat for me and my family and I do feel like I have bit off a lot here. I know it is going to be a challenge. I am comfortable that I have bought a good boat. I think the guy I bought it from is a stand up guy and I was able to find a lifelong boater who used to own a Sportcraft so look it over with me.

I am currently working through an online Michigan boater education course and will take a test for my boater safety certificate.

I know this will be a good thing, good for the family, but I have to admit, I feel a little overwhelmed tonight.

Thanks

Welcome aboard and you will be fine. We all went through that with the 1st boat. Enjoy it.

Re: I think I bought a boat

Congrats! I bought my 2nd boat yesterday, a 1984 SportCraft 222 22' walkaround, basically you're boats smaller sister.

Now we need to revive the SportCraft Owner's Forum here.

I know you're going to be fine. You're on the right track with the online course. If you know any boaters, see if they'll give you some lessons. Just be safe, and most of all, have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First off, congratulations on your purchase, if you didn?t feel this way I?d think something was wrong with you. As long as you are comfortable with the financial and boat condition aspect you?ll do fine. When I bought my boat, I was a wreck, did I do the right thing, can I afford it, and so on. Well 2 seasons later I kick myself in the stern for not getting one sooner.

i bet by the end of the season you'll be tellin yourself you should have gone a little bigger. i started with a 23' last year and was worried to death at first. i stepped right up to a 29' this year. :D best of luck and be prepared to break and fix stuff. for me that's half the fun as long as it doesn't get to expensive.

Brought her home tonight...my first time pulling a boat, and I was a little nervous.

I'll spend a couple days getting her cleaned up then it's off to the in/out rack at the marina.

I just bought my 6th boat, and the feeling is the same. It always goes away after a couple successful trips. Good luck and enjoy.

That thing is gorgeous. Good luck with it! That doesn't look ANYWHERE NEAR as old as '90.

Congrats on the boat... it does look really nice. My best recommendation is to take it out for the maiden voyage on a calm day, during the week, at a quiet ramp. If you can bring someone with you that is experienced, even better.

When I bought my first boat about three years ago ish, I was sick to my stomach for days afterward after spending the money.

It all went away as we cruised away from the dock the first time though.

That rig will be perfect on the big lakes here...congrats on a wise purchase and good luck:D

Make sure to take her in some 3'-5' swells right away so you know what she can handle;)

My dad has a 24' Seaswirl and it's very similar, you will be happy with the way she handles on the water.

I would wait til those 3-5' seas just happen when you're out there, I wouldn't go looking for them. Get used to it in calm seas, those 3-5 footers will happen sooner or later, but by then, you'll know you're boat.

Re: I think I bought a boat

That is a GREAT looking boat.

There were so many boats out in the River Channel Saturday. I couldn't believe it.

We are heading out for an evening cruise tonight!
