So my girlfriend decided that she wanted to learn how to fish this year. No problem, I tell her. Since she has never been on a boat
, I took her out a few times to teach her how to launch, drive, not get scared every time we hit a wave, etc. Once she got used to the boat we went fishing a couple times and she has enjoyed it. Caught a few fish, and she has really gotten better with the boat.
So yesterday, she called me from work and asked, "Can we go fishing when I get done?"
I was already fishing, and told her no problem, pick you up at 5. I load the boat and go get her. Figuring I would have to go to town anyway, since I needed more bait. When I get there, she already has bait and beer. Went to a fairly small lake that is near home. We did fairly well, and by sunset had a pretty good collection of bluegill, and a few bass.
Load up and go home. Back the boat in the driveway, and I (jokingly) hand her a fillet knife and said, "Go ahead and clean the fish, I'll take care of the boat."
I thought I was dreaming when she replies, "OK, you just have to show me how on the first one." Of course I showed her, but still expected to have to do them all myself. Then she takes the knife, and fillets one like a pro. I leave her to it, and put everything away. When I'm done, I go to finish for her, and she says, "I'll take care of these, just go heat up some oil so we can start frying them."
So I think that she has all the training she needs. She buys the beer, and cleans the fish. What more can a guy ask for?
