I think I may have screwed up

Long story shory I had to remove some screws from my transom 7 to be exact. I was going to the lake the next day and wanted to use 3m 4200 to seal them off but couldent get any in time. So I used a quick cure silicone that walmart had it was for bathrooms and even said not for use below the water line. I used it anyway and planned to re do the holes when I got my 4200. Well as soon as I got home I pulled all the screws and have since ordered the 4200 and 5200 also. Well today I came across a few threads saying that nothing will stick to this silicone. So is this true if so how screwed am I. I want to get it sealed right beacuse I am afraid of core rott. Thanks in advance.

Can't you just drill them out a little wider so that it takes out the silicone, then re-seal with 5200?

Ya I thought about that thats fine on the 3 transducer screws. The other 4 screws are for the siwm platform and are pretty big I dident want to do any drilling if I dident have to.

Or drill significantly wider and a bit deeper, fill with thickened epoxy / Marine-Tex, let harden, re-drill to the correct size, and seal with 5200.

(This has the added benefit of a double-layer of protection for the inner wood)

Or, drill out, wood dowels of the appropriate size. Epoxy in the hole and on the dowels, drive them home. Gel-coat smooth, re-drill your holes if you need them.

Get undersized drill bit, wrap it with cloth, soak it with acetone and ream out the hole. Let it dry then Fill it with 3M 5200. 4200 is Semi Permanent 5200 is Permanent.

I agree and this is considered the best practice
