i have a older carolina skiff that has a foam core not wood, but it also has a flat floor unlike the new ones that has a small bilge in the center back, can one (bilge) be put in? who much trouble would that be?

Hi Brent.. I would go to someplace like home depot and have a look around the plumbing department for a plastic drain with a flange to mount the pump in... You could also make a small box with a flange out of fiberglass from a simple mold.... Then cut a hole, dig out enough foam, and pop the box in with a few screws to hold it down and some sealant like 3M 5200 so water won't leak back into foam...

Thats about the easiest way I can think of without getting into a bunch of extra itchey glass work..

Something like that? Hope you can make heads or tails out of that... :D

Snapper i like that plan, looks good, in your experience does that foam suck up a lot of water? i had cut down the transom and took the cut piece to play with, don't seem like water would stand a chance getting inside there.

Brent, It takes a pretty long period of time for the foam to soak up any water, but its best to stop the water from getting in now so you won't have to deal with it later...

Some of the foam in newer boats might be better.. I dunno..

The staurated foam I've had to deal with was in boats that were more than ten years old that were'nt taken care of by the boats previous owners....

HUMMMM! the feared and dreaded RED X  worked yesterday???? Weird...
