? I think I'm running a little rich after a MerCarb 2 barrel rebuild ?

The Mercarb 2 barrel was rebuilt in the last 2 months. I had it soaked for 2 days before even messing with it. I set the inital mixture screw to 1-1/4 turns out from seat and the idle screw to 2 turns in from just making contact with the cam. I have noticed that if I am running the boat for about 30 minutes at 1/2 throttle and sometimes giving the throttle a burst to WOT for about 2-3 minutes then come down to idle after about 30 seconds off what I call "calm down motor time" the damn thing sucks to restart. At times... it will start with just a bump of the key, and then again at times... it takes a couple of seconds to start. I have had 2 marinas put it on muffs and try to adjust everything in base mode in that manner despite telling them to get it wet to do the setup, but they will not take it to the lake to do it as they state it is a waste of time (I think they think they are the premier repairmen that claim to know it all). The reason for asking is... I popped off my arrestor the other day and I have a noticeable amount of carbon built up on the barrels and the center heads even while running 89 octane and seafoam. I sprayed carb cleaner in it and it immediately took it off, but why such a build up if its been rebuilt to specs and runs very well after a rebuild. Right now the mixture screw are 1 turn out from seat and the idle screw is 1-1/2 in from just touching the cam follower. Is there anyone out there can't tell me their setup on the 96 Mercruiser 4.3LX with the MercCarb 2 barrel that I compare there setup to and even try? I know every motor runs differently, but hell, even I could do what these marinas are doing in my driveway and spend the money I paid them to buy some beer and play with it myself!

My first thought would be that you have a wet soak going on when you shut it down. What did you set the float drop and float level at. Should be 9/16 level and 1-1/32 drop if I'm not mistaken. Are you sure the float setting is correct?
