ok i give the history.at first i thought i had a carb problem so i rebuilt them.motor would start for a few seconds and die out.come to find out i didnt have spark on all cylinders.so as i searched for the problem i found out that the magnets came loose and a couple of them cracked.then i replaced them and still was only getting spark on 2 cylinders.so i thought to myself let me charge the battery up because this happened to me before when the battery wasnt fully charged i wasnt getting spark to all cylinders.now i have spark to all cylinders but it still wont start.i did a compression test, used a gap spark tester.and i am getting fuel to the carbs but its not even trying to pop or anything.oh forgot to add in i am missing the connector that looks like a piece of coat hanger that connect the timer base to the throttle arm.could that be the problem?

Your post does not indicate if it is a 2 hp or 300Hp.
Without a model number, we do not know if it is a 1938 or a 2012 model?

If your 'coat hanger' is missing, it probably has a timing ATD whatever throttle you give it and will never start!!

After Top Dead Center. Hook up a timing light and crank. Normally to start, timing must be a couple of degrees before TDC (Top Dead Center).

ok i connected the "coat hanger" and the motor still wont fire up.it just turns and does absolutely nothing.could i have put the flywheel in wrong?i have spark and fuel. compression is good.before i took off the flywheel when i would crank the motor and it would start for a couple of seconds.now doesnt even do that.im at a loss of what to do.

If you have spark, but no start, remove the flywheel and check that key is not broken. If broken, install new key, any one that fits, properly clean with carb cleaner/aceton both crank and cone in flywheel and re-torque the nut to proper torque.

If you have to replace the key get the proper one from a BRP dlr. Hardware store ones don't work.

Sorry, but not correct!! The key should not be holding the flywheel, just align it to the crank and trigger coil!! You may even use a toothpick or no key at all, as long as you get it aligned. Clean off properly, right torque on the nut, and that is it!

With the wrong key you may not get the flywheel torqued correctly. Yes I know the key only positions the flywheel and the flywheel and the crankshaft are nothing but morse tapers !!

ok i checked the key and it doesnt look cracked or broken.i checked the spark again and on 1 spark plug wire that i tested i was getting intermittent spark.i switched power packs and it didnt follow to the other side.then i swapped coils and it followed the coil.im guessing the coil is faulty but wouldnt the motor still try to fire up when it does shoot spark?the motor just does nothing but turn.not even a pop.if the timing was off wouldnt the motor backfire or something?

Re: i think my motor is cursed!!

What gap did you have your spark tester set at ?? Squirt some premix fuel in the carb throats once and see what happens.

ok i squirted some premix and she wanted to fire up.i did sink the boat before i had any problems but i emtied the fuel tank and it did fire up after putting fresh fuel in .im thinking there might have still been a little bit more water in the tank possibly.im going to connect a portable tank and see what happens.any other suggestions?
