I think the exhaust bellows hose came off?

So I just get my boat back from servicing spendig close to $3000.00 in which the drive was pulled, Gimbal Bearing replaced, gear oil replaced, water pump upholstery etc... get it all the way home almost 80km's, load it up take it to the ramp and check the drain plug. I look up and see this hose just hanging there with a clamp on it not connected to anything. I am thinking it is the exhaust hose and goes on the port somehow? Is there an easy way to pull the acordian hose over the port, and tighten the clamp? please see the attached pictures.

I tired calling the place but of course they are closed for the weekend, and I have to return the rental pickup truck I used to haul it home in the morning. I am going to raise hell come Monday morning though, but in the short term, is there some trick I can to put it back on?

Forgot to mention this is a 1991 4.3L mercruiser 2bbl, with an Alpha 1 Drive Gen II drive(SN 0D564157 and 0D569992)

Thanks

Follow-up, can I run the boat without the Bellows hose attached without doing any damage to anything in salt water.

if it's the bottom bellow under the shift cable bellow then i don't see why not. I run an exhaust tube on mine and it's only connected to the transom end so water is always getting in and i've never had an issue yet

Thanks, not knowing a whole lot about boats, this is the large accordian hose, so I am only guessing it is the exhaust bellows?

It is in fact the "exhaust bellows". You can run it like it is but shouldn't!

The dealer or shop has nothing to do with it coming off from what you are saying. But, they should have noticed it & brought to your attention.

Just a precaution til you get it reinstalled, back the boat into calm water slowly & don't leave it moored in rough water. You have no idea what condition the flappers are in.

Wouldn't they have removed the hose if they pulled the drive and replaced the gimbal bearing and seals?

I don't know what you asked them to do. Replacing the gimbal brg does not involve any bellows. Bellows leaking lead to gimbal brg failure (noisy, eventually seizing).
Those pics DO NOT show anything new.

Re: I think the exhaust hose came off?

Sorry, I think maybe I worded my question wrong. I did have water coming in and these are the things they said they had done. "Remove drive and replace gimbal bearing, checked gear oil and discovered it was contaminated with water. Pressure test drive and determine where leak was and repaired, refill gear oil and install drive, check power steering steering system, found loose hose. install new hos clamp. Replace circulation pump that was leaking. Replace drain plug in hull, remove trim pump fluid and refill with new fluid". So in me head, I was thinking they would have removed the hose when replacing the bearing. These pictures were taken just before I was about to launch the boat, and I wasn't sure what the dangling hose was from which is why I attached them. I would think that they would see a hose disconnected if they were doing all that work wouldn't they

Here is the list of the other parts that they replaced Bearing Kit , Gasket Set , 1 pump assy-water , water inlet hose (alternator belt rubbed against it) , seal , sleeve , drain plug , alternator belt . I had also told them to check everything over, and replace whatever was needed.

Nothing on that list indicates replacing or even inspecting the bellows!
I don't think you worded anything wrong, here anyway. You should have told them "give it a good look" and if they didn't see it, you may have a better case.
I don't know how things go in NS but from where I'm at in Chi-town this could be 15 customers gone! Another half hour labor to put it back on or atleast let you know it's off via phone/email whatever.

I would have that outdrive/transom assembly inspected by a PRO, and DO NOT put that boat in the water until you have confirmed that your u-joint bellows is attached securely...or you are going to be in for an ugly surprise! I cannot believe that $3,000 did not include a full bellows replacement. ESPECIALLY if you had the gimbal bearing replaced as a matter of water contamination!

The $3000.00 also included having all my seats re-upholseterd as well, but is was all done at the same place. The actual engine portion was $1370.60 for the parts I listsed above.

They still should have inspected the bellows and checked alignment as a matter of course while the drive was off. They should not have missed that bellows being off. I had all my bellows replaced, the u-joints replaced, the lower shift cable replaced, and the gimble bearing replaced for $1500.00 US. Maybe your figures are not in US Dollars.

It was in Canadian Dollars which is pretty much the same as the U.S. Dollar. I don't know what the labour rates are in the U.S. but up here they are $85.00 per hour.
