I think this is a good buy

Today I placed an order for a prop from the marine store here on iboats.com. I ordered a Solas Amita 9-1/4" X 8" prop for my 15hp. Johnson. I guess I should have asked this before ordering but I think for the money spent (62.00) it wasn't much more than a reconditioned prop and I'll have a new prop to use as a spare! I have no exp. with this brand of prop, has anyone here used this brand? It's an alum. prop but for a 15hp. and its one pitch bigger than what I now use so it will offer just a bit more top end. I think it makes sense for me, any feedback on my choosing a new low cost prop over a reconditioned prop? I think for the little difference in price having new ain't a bad thing.

I like that prop. I put on a 9 1/4 x 9 on my John. Good bite, picked up 2.1 mph over same diameter and pitch. Other prop was well worn.

I'm sure its a good prop. Whether its a good choice would depend on your present prop size and the wot rpm and speed. If your your prop is in good shape and the motor is at or slightly over its rated rpm the increase in pitch will lower the rpm and may increase speed and slightly
slow hole shot.If the motor isn't making top rpm it may lug the motor and further slow hole shot.It would serve as a spare and occasional prop change. But if lugging permanent operation could cause premature repair problems.

I bought a Solas prop from iboats.com. The service was good. As for the prop, it agitated the water instead of pushing the water, creating tons of bubbles. Its diameter and the pitch were recommended by the engine maker. I could feel the rev. was up and the boat did not go faster than the previous prop. Ventilation happened twice. The prop was damaged in the second trip. It ended up as a spare prop.

I bought a used Michigan Wheel prop from craigslist. It is much better.

You already bought the prop. If you were really concerned about your subject matter you would have sought advice BEFORE you made the purchase. You just want us to reassure you that you did good. Sorry but I can't do that. Have no idea as to your particulars.

I don't think the change will be drastic by going from a 7 to 8 pitch, I just never heard of this brand of prop. that's was the main reason I started the post. I can't remember what it cost to have a prop redone but I know the last prop I bought (A Michigan prop) cost 95.00 so I bought based on price of new vs. price of used.

That's what I needed to hear! With this prop being 30.00 less than any props I've found locally I took a chance.

Well I got home from work and there was the Prop!! Now that's fast service, since it will be a spare I wont use it till maybe early next spring. I'll be sure to let you know what I think of it as soon as I use it the first time.
