Re: I unhooked vro pump

There are one or two wiring harnesses to disconnect, one from the oil tank, the other from the VRO. The pump itself is all mechanical.

Be sure to run the premix all of the way to the engine before switching, so you are not running without oil.

Thanks..reason i ask, cause the boat won't run over 2700 rpms...& the boat shop told me..i had to unhook the wires right or the motor will think it's not getting oil.....Is it just as simple as unhooking the 4 wires?

Re: I unhooked vro pump

Here's what it is doing........It would run great when it was COLD & set for about 2hrs it wouldn't run over 3400 rpms....Then it got where no matter what it wouldn't run over 3400 rpms.....now 2700 rpms is it hard to start and won't idel....it's like its getting to much fuel floods out......I have installed new coil packs and power pack.............im little lost........with having a family i can't give $95.00 hour for someone to work on the boat.......If i had it i would love too cause they are the pro's.........But i got two boy im wanting to take fishing....maybe it will keep the out of trouble...lol...

One morething.........I would like to fined a 70hp too 100hp motor for it.....if anyone Knows anyone maybe for sale.......I guess it sad when your ready to just replace the motor......But it seem like that would be the fastest fix.....cause the boys are on me hard to get the boat fix........I want to thank everyone here that helps me...........Cause it will come back too you guys....Cause i have learned onething about boat shops.....no money no help.....

you didn't say what motor or year you have, but sounds like you have a carboration problem, or a link & sinc problem. both are relatively easy fixes. Have you checked your compression, what are the numbers?

Re: I unhooked vro pump

Does your overheat horn work? You should get a short beep when you turn the key on. If not, fix it. You may have a SLOW function that is being activated which acts like a rev limiter to limit rpm on an overheat or oil alarm situation. The circuit that controls that is built into the power pack and it may be falsely activating the SLOW function. As for the oil injection system, you remove the oil line at the engine and cap the fitting. Disconnect the four pin connector on the port side of the engine from the VRO pump. Remove the oil tank. The overheat warning will still function normally.

Re: I unhooked vro pump

i have a similar problem, i have 1989 110 johnson vro that runs great in the barrel but put in the lake and put under load and doesnt want to plane. its as if its not getting enough throttle. did put a new set of plugs in it but it didnt help. this past weekend i ran it in the barrel for about 45min spraying deep creep sea foam directly into the carbs and in it and smoothed out considerably and had no hesitation when the throttle was worked, could it just be dirty carbs or something else?. i
thanks

Re: I unhooked vro pump

I just purchased a 1992 60hp Johnson in super clean condition and I have owned several rock solid I3 Johnson 70s & a couple of V4s but this is my first Johnson with oil injection. Are there any problems I should be aware of. Is this a good feature?
