Re: I want to replace the transom?
I did it when nobody was around so i wouldn't see myself on some funny videos thing.
i saw the pics of the inside of the craft on the other boat.....

a little kid would have a hard time in there.......
thats one reason to pull the cap.
plus that .....i would really consider putting a full layer of 1708 over the entire inside of the hull......after the cap is off.....rough and scuffing the old glass is easy and the glassing process will only take an hour at best.
when the alum extrusion part of the rub rail comes off.....i think you will find a shoe box joint.......
the shoe box joint will be evident, and self explainatory.....
the flange joint is the cap just sitting on the hull....there will be a layer of glass around the inner seam......but because of limited acess to the inside....i would be absolutly shocked if the manns used that process on that craft.
the boat is sooo small....it will take only one person to lift the cap off. after its off the transom will be right there and you can get it easy.....only an hour or two of grinding/chiseling before its out.....
my fav tool for that job....is a 5 inch grinder with a 7 inch rubber flapper disc on it....and a 24 grit sand paper...(actually a resin paper)
that tool will also make it really easy to ruff and scuff the inner hull.....only a half hour or so to scuff the entire hull.......then vaccume the hull....aceitone it.......and start the transom installation.....after its in....then add the entire 1708 wrap over the whoile thing....including the transom......it will be solid as a rock....and safe.........
but your girl still might not want to ride in it
