My local hardware store salesmen told me a helicoil on an aluminum block may not seal well. Thats why I wanted some advice from someone who has repaired on of these damaged manifold bolt holes.

will work fine, used then on the spark plug on my alloy head car, just put some thread locking compond on outside of insert to hold in and copper anti seize grease on inside so insert will not come out if stud removed at a later date.

find another hardware store. Volvo helicoils a lot of their stuff from the factory. thats why they normally come apart. the CIWS mount on a navy ship is 99% helicoils and mostly aluminium where possible. we use them constanty to repair threads here. if sealing is a concerm coat the OD of the heli-coil with gel-seal or loc-tite stud and bearing mount. I have found gel-seal or its loc-tite equivalent works wonders
