Just take a boat ride on the Illinois River. (Out Chicago way) Asian carp have settled in the river & population has gone crazy. Big effort to keep them out of Great Lakes. People have ended up in the hospital because of them. Concussions, broken bnes, etc.

Two years ago a girl got hit in the head by one of those fish while driving a PWC. Illinois river. She got a concussion and ultimatly passed away.

Those fish aren't native and nothing eats them.

They sure make boating on the Illinois interesting tho.

That must be somewhere in Brazil, because they were speaking Portugese. Like in the amazon river or somewhere there. I could be wrong. That was cool going fishing without a pole and bait and yet still return with a boat load of fishes. Some of the fishes look pretty big too...:)

unfortunately, i don't see humor in that video. i've seen others like it. it's them darn asian carp. they are in our us waterways. as noted before, i've read of folks getting hurt by these jumping fish. just like stated before in this thread. the reason i don't see the humor is that that darn fish has been seen just south of omaha on the missouri river. i boat the missouri river. i also understand they's a kinda soft fish. in that they break apart if you hit them at speed. + they get big enough to do damage to your boat if ya take one on the windshield. these imported fish are more than a nuisance. they're outright dangerous. + who knows what the effect on our native species is.. but i'll venture to guess that it ain't good....

all that aside. i do have to laugh at all them fish jumping into that fellas boat... it is funny to watch. but man, the ramifications are anything less than funny..

Being who I am, I'd set up a jon boat with one of those gas powered wood chippers running on the bow, with the outlet nozzle pointed sideways.

Then I'd run it up to speed, start the boat and go cruising, seeing how many fish would voluntarily turn themselves into chum as I went :) :)

Wow! How long has this issue been going on? I've never even heard of asian carp before. Are they edible at least?

Whoever fgures out a way to thin them out or kill them off will be some hero. That is super scary. I hope the NC waters don't see them introduced. Cuddy cabins will soon be required on the waterways, due to them being 'armored boats' in this case.

It is so weird I find myself wondering if the videos are fake. Scary stuff.
