The Stupid Human mistakes I have collected over the last 7 seasons are almost endless..

My favorite Human mistakes, are the idiots who disconnect ALL the safety chains while still on dry land. The best was the guy who bought a brand new trailer with bunks for his 27ft SeaRay, our ramp is the best ramp in ALL of Vancouver BC, we're the only ramp where you can put a large boat in, at a *negative tide*. But the initial slope is quite sharp.
I told him, you want to leave your safety chain attached until you are closer to the water..
He Replied "I have been launching boats longer then you have been alive sonny"
My reply: First I am older then I look, and second; I haven't ever seen you at my marina before, there for you dont know *my* ramp.
Sure as goose poop is slick, his boat slid off the bunks, destroyed his leg, crushed his kicker, and ripped a 4ft hole in the hull..

I laughed, and said I told you... He asked me not to say anything to the insurance adjuster. I told him to go to hell, I dont lie.. So he tried to get my boss to tell me, to not to talk to the insurance adjuster. So I made it a point to be here, when the adjuster did show up..

I like the ones that not only untie, then see if it will start, but have never started it before and don't know how. LOVE the look on their faces when they have drained the battery and then look to shore for someone to come and get them.

Checklists trump know-it-alls anyday! :D
Plug in, trim up, back down, ropes out, start motor, chains off, depart with care and caution... After all you worked so hard for that toy.

PTBRSTC - 7letters, if you only did 6 thing's you're going to have issues. Above is the CRITICAL check-list. I have many others like my Departing Garage check-list. :)

TCLK - TrimUp, Chains, Lights, KickTires. Again, if you only did 3, you will have issues.

Have you seen any good boxin' matches? At the busier launches in Minnesota, I swear I've seen grown men turn into children.

These are the same people who give you real dirty looks when you first turn on your blower for a few minutes, then start up and give the engines 30 seconds to warm up and THEN untie and depart!

Re: I work at a Marina...

It was sort of amusing when I dropped mine for the season about 6 weeks ago. Its a 4 lane ramp and one boat and truck was on it when we pulled up with the cover off of course. I got out of the truck and unstrapped the back hooked up the tank and pumped it up and climbed onto the boat and my friend dropped it back into the lake. The other people never even noticed until I fired up the motor and as it was warming I released the winch strap and pulled off and Idled over to the ramp dock to wait till my friend parked the truck. Mean while the other guys were using starting fluid in a attempt to get theirs fired. It did fire as my friend was walking down the dock but I heard a real bad sound. Sounded like a bearing squealing at first then it quieted down. Starting fluid is about the worst thing you can do to a 2 stroke it washes the oil off of the mains but some never learn.

We also have Dryland storage, and I dont know how many times a year, I remind people to put ears on their boat, and make sure it starts on dry land, before trying to start the motor when the elevator fully submerged, and they're floating out..

I have a spray bottle in my guard shack that has 50:1 mixed fuel in it, I chuckle every time I offer it, and I get told "Ether" is the best way to start a motor.

As much as I would have enjoyed sitting on the deck with a sack of beer, and watching the long weekend on the ramp... I chose to go home, and hang out with my dad's friends family (from Texas) and drink beer...

Re: I work at a Marina...

It was a Great weekend here in North Texas and I have the Sunburn to prove it. Spent Saturday & Sunday on the lake. Yesterday there was a young ,excited ,clueless family in thier new to them runabout. Proudly waiving to everyone they saw, land & water, truely excited.
They had no clue they were making the largest wake thier boat could possibly make in the No Wake zone. Just circling around in a protected cove. Overloaded and small kids without life jackets. A classic disaster wating to happen. I had seen a Game Warden earlier out in his boat but he was long gone.

I tried to communicate to them in a polite way about the No Wake Zone but was unsuccessful.

When I loaded up to go home they were racing around out in the main body of the lake.

I have friends who do that! It drives me nuts and no longer do any boating with them. I don't want to have my day on the water ruined because they are stupid and I need to come to their aid.

its frustrating but hey not everyone has common sense

Very tempting, but he said the idiot had kids in the boat, I wouldn't want to risk hit a kid as I'm sure my aim isn't that good.
