iboats does not offer a part is there another one i can use?

I am looking for a fuel pump kit for a johnson 15 hp 1979. is it the same kit as the one for the 1980's that they do offer? iboats does not offer one for the 1979

The OEM does not even offer it for that year model as it crosses over to new part number(388683) to a new pump only. The OEM kits are:
393088........fits 2.5-15 hp.... years 1981 and up
398514........fit 15 hp 1988-89
438616........fit 15 hp 1989-06
You could try the 18-7820 as you only need diaphram or you could order a Mercury kit 19-7803 as it has 2 large diaphrams you could cut to size and use.

The pumps are all the same, the square ones that is (part # 393088 or the sierra equivalent). The difference is with the newer one's they added tabs to the plastic body to aid in reassembly. I used one of the newer kits from OMC on the older pumps, it took 4 tries to get it going but that's because I didn't take pics before I replaced it. Take pictures of the pumps before reassembly, they can go back together with the inlet and outlet pointing in different directions, this is important as putting the lines back on is impossible without the proper direction. Pay attention to where the springs go as well, make a diagram or take pics.

I think Jasper posted the entire pump, I paid only $25 for the OMC kit, CAD dollars of course.
