as we were heading to the hot spot- the ice was solid across the river, which is a little different than im used to.
when the ice is broken up you can just push threw and they scoot off to the side, but when its solid ice theres no give way for side pressure! i had a small leak that dripped on the floor, but i didnt think that the pressure would build so high that it whould crack and create a 23 1/2 in. gap on the side of my boat! as water started to pour in, i looked down and sure enough, time to head back quick! i put it in reverse and turned around when i could. the other 2 boats at the launch moved so we could back in the trailer and pull out. man..... check out the pics!!!

I used to play with ice in my old 12' aluminum boat.

It seems you learned the hard way that ice and boats don't mix all that well.

Does the name "Titanic" ring a bell?

Yes, it does. In 1973, I was on a ship enroute to St. John's, Newfoundland during iceberg season. We were slowly steaming through the fog, threading our way through the iceberg field, when the bow lookout called "iceberg dead ahead!" We immediately went to "all astern" and tried to steer away from the berg. We did manage to avoid it, but were only 6 feet from the underwater portion of the iceberg, when our forward motion stopped.

We were 50 miles from where the Titanic sank!

Where are the gaps you are talking about in the two pictures you posted? I cant seem to find where the holes are in the hull. I see a wet spot but i really cant see where you are talking about. Can you circle them by useing mspaint or something? Im interested to see what you are talking about.
