I was hoping someone might be able to help me ID the manufacturer of this boat. As you can see, I have a bit of work ahead.

This may be the outline of the original transom.

Boat measures 11' 9" Along top rail, 50" max width, 45" wide at transom, 15" transom height. I can't find any manufacturer markings. Appears water tight.

Any advice on repairs is welcome.

First step is remove that outlandish paint.... Hopefully underneath somewhere you find an engraved manufacturer's plate.

Then you start looking for leaks, loose rivets and such.

Its not going to be rated for much of an engine... I'd still put on at least as large of a piece of plywood for the transom as the size of the board you removed.

Yeah, the paint is going ASAP. Unfortunately I can find no sign of a manufacturers plate anywhere, so I'm not hopeful. Proper engine rating and weight capacity is why I would like to get a correct ID.

I would guess it would be rated for a 6 hp knowing of 2 other boats that size. Max capacity no idea but common sense should help on that one. Take some sand bags to the launch on a quite day and play around with the number of bags if you can not find a plate or some identification under that horrid paint job.

I'd call it a 3 person boat...
And that's not 3 fat old guys. its about 360 lbs total load including engine, gas tank, fishing gear and people.

Without better data... I wouldn't load it heavier.

The construction appears to be an old StarCraft, just a guess now but I have owned many of the them so just going by appearance. If it were....7.5hp rating and around a 450 lb load capacity. Much of the way the rivets and hull plates are riveted on gives the appearance of an older starcraft.

It's surely no more than 6 hp.450 lbs rating as suggested above. How deep is the deepest part?
Wouldn't hurt to weigh it.

Does Sgt Pepper know you swiped his boat? :becky:

IIRC, Starcrafts, even late 50s SCs, had much larger transom corners.

IMO its definitely pre 1972, so it wont have a HIN stamped on the transom either.

My impression of it is that its not a Crestliner or a
Larson, but it could be.

Not likely a Feathercraft either

Duracraft
Alumacraft
Lund

And literally hundreds of other makers that are no longer in business.

LOTS of info can be found in the FG library. Dig in and start looking thru their posted pix, when you find a possible visual match, compare yours to the listed dimensions.

Good luck and good riddance to that paint job...

Hi guys, thanks for the info. Sorry for getting back to you so late but we are packing house for a move.

The deepest point on the boat measures 16.5" I haven't found any exact matches in the FG library yet, just some dimensional ones... I'll keep looking.

The paint removal is a bigger job than expected, may have to wait until we are settled at our new location to get that done. Is there an aluminum safe stripper that anyone can recommend? Or should I just media blast it?

Not always. Here in Wis. they do not title boats under 16' and if it's old enough that there is no HID number then it may be impossible to ID. If it's used as a pond boat or row boat w/o an engine then they're not even required to register it. So who know when the last time many of these old tinners had any paper work.

It's similar here in Indiana. I can get it registered by filling out a couple forms, and I realize I can put just about any fitting info in for a boat of this type. I was just trying to be accurate. So far, the best descriptive fit I've found is a 1961 or '62 12' Starcraft Sea Scamp. The beam and transom height/width are dead on.

Was in the same situation a couple years back with a 14' tin. It looked like and I thought it was a Crestliner only to finally fid it to be a Rich Line. Year still unknown.
