ID? what do you mean? shop.evinrude.com has all models listed and exploded parts diagrams back to 1968 with OEM parts pricing and availability shown.

My outdrive has been painted over. There are absolutely no numbers on it anywhere. It could be 1 of several years how do you tell? by the size? shape? No tag or stamp? Thanks J

Re: ID outdrive

OMC really only had one type of stern drive in 1970 ('64 -'77, I think before hydro-mechanical shift) - you've got an electric shift stringer. I'd have to go look at where the ID tag is on mine - I'm thinking it's on the upper gearcase. What HP engine do you have?

Re: ID outdrive

I wouldn't worry about the year too much. 1969-1977 units had 5 bolts holding the top sterndrive housing cover on. pre-1968 had 4 bolts. If you have one of those antiques, it might be a chore finding some parts, but maintenance items the same.
fluids, impeller, propellers etc ....from 1969 to 1977 all that stuff is the same, even propellers.

If you're wanting to upgrade boats, then go ahead and sell and move on. If you like it and want to try to keep it running, you can do it. I've got a '72 that hasn't been crazy to keep alive - and it hasn't broken me yet either. But it's not convenient at all.

Base it more on if you like the boat I would say. An old OMC is a project ... even when it runs well.

must be vortec heads on an early (pre-1987) 350 block unless someone fabricated a drive coupler for the post 1986 crankshaft (big bucks to go that route)
There never was a drive coupler made for stringer drives that would bolt to a block with the 1 pc rear main seal.
