I'll start by saying hi to everyone. I've used iboats for a long time as reference material and it's been a lifesaver. Now looking at buying another boat, owner doesn't know much about it, I won't be able to see it for a week or so, and all I have is pics, so I said to myself..."self...post it on iboats and let the experts tell you". :D

All I know is it's a Larson with a 65hp Mercury on it. I'd like to know, if possible, year of boat, and year of motor. Oh, and as a bonus...just from the pics, do ya'll think it's worth $1,800? Obviously if I want it I'm going to offer 15, but that's just the fun of haggling!

Thanks for any and all help, and happy boating!

Re: ID Please

Welcome hjones. It's 60's in vintage though I don't know an exact year. Looks to be in real nice shape. In my area the price would be high. I don't think he'd get much over $1k here. Small closed bow runabouts just aren't that popular. Parts support is a bit spotty on old Mercurys also.

Re: ID Please

Thanks ezmobee for the response. I figured 60's, but like you wasn't sure of anything exact. I don't really like the closed bow design either, but since the boat is only right up the road from my house, it doesn't cost anything to look. Thanks also for the pricing info. I'm really looking for something that can be a good fishing boat and a good family boat, but have a really small budget. I have a boat now, so no real rush, the right one will come along. I do like the vintage boats though, especially in good shape. My boat now has an 87 model Mercury, and parts have to be ordered online, so I can imagine how hard it would be on something much older than that. Thans again!

If anyone else can assist in telling me anything at all about this boat, I'd sure appreciate it.

Re: ID Please

As a past closed bow owner, let me confirm your suspicions.....you'll be immediately looking for an open bow! Especially for fishing. Have you looked at aluminum Starcrafts at all? Lots of us are nutty for them on this site.

Re: ID Please

That's what I was thinking you would say. I've had a couple friends of mine say the same thing about the closed bow.

Nope, haven't checked out Startcraft, but I'll definitely give them a look. Thanks again.

Re: ID Please

Got a chance to see the boat tonight. It's a 1967 Larson 156, so 15'6" in length. It has the original 67 Mercury 650 on it, which cranks right up. Drivers seat has been replaced with a pedestal seat, new wiring, carpet, etc. Awesome little boat, and a great classic, but don't think it would be so functional for fishing. If I had the $ to just buy it as a toy, I would snatch it up. Thanks for all the info.
