Checked the compression last night and this is what I got:
#1 - 100
#2 - 110
#3 - 110
#4 - 115
Will the jump from 100 to 115 going to cause any problems? Any thoughts on what it would take to get all 4 to 115, replace gaskets, seals? Overall, I'm happy with the outcome, just curious if its possible to improve. Plus it will give me something to do this winter....
I usually try to stick with the 10-15% difference from the highest to lowest compression cylinders. Some MFG's will say 25% is acceptable. With the numbers you have, you will be ok.
Wow, within %25 is acceptable, very cool. Considering how the motor is 28 years old, and I picked it up at a steal of a price, I am impressed with the compression turnout. Thanks!
Your readings will be effected by how you did the test.
You will get higher and more consistent readings with the throttle full open, the engine warm, and all plugs removed.
The best thing you can do, is a thorough decarb, to remove the gunk from inside.
Roscoe, thanks a bunch. I am fairly to outboards, I appreciate all of these tips. I think the motor is ready for an official test on the open water. Thanks again!
