identify mercruiser starter

Good day all, who can tell me what starter i need from these pics. I don't have the serial number. It was a 89 but the block froze and i believe the block was replaced with a early 80's block.

That appears to be a normal Chevy starter. Take it off and go to your local Napa parts store. Tell them you want a true marine starter for replacement. If its not a marine starter, it shouldn't be on the boat. I think they make a gear reduction starter now that works even better that that one,

I was hoping to have the replacement starter when I removed this one. Its parked in its slip a half hour away.

Ayuh,..... You have to reach under, where it mounts to the block, 'n see whether the bolts are straight across, or staggered,....

Once ya find out that, get a new marine permanent magnet motor starter,.....
1/2 the weight, 'n nearly twice the power,....
