Identify outdrive

I'm new to i/o setups so I am curious. I have seen references to some Alpha One drives as being Generation 2. A original paper that I found onboard in a storage area from 1996 when this unit was installed gives this info: Mercruiser __Alpha Transom 1996 __6-010000J S__0F642098
is this Gen1 or 2? Is there any difference in parts?BTW, this unit sits behind a 3L 4 banger.

I think its gen2

I think the difference between gen 1 and 2 is pretty clear when you look at the skeg. On gen 2 the trailing edge is angled, and on 1 it is vertical.

It's a gen II

All Alpha outdrives starting in 1991 are Gen II

Thanx for the clarification. Sure glad I found this forum. I have a 1966 Pacific Mariner that I will be rebuilding over the next few years (extremely small budget). I have learned a lot from iboat forum! God bless!
