Identifying Johnson 70 VRO model year, help please.

The serial number plate is missing from a recently purchased Johnson 70 VRO. The label on the VRO pump says VRO2, which from my research, indicates 1986 or newer. Is there anyway I can further pin down the year by visual means on engine components?

Take a pic of the motor the VRO pump could have been changed. Need pics of the hood and powerhead.

I just found a number on the internal wiring harness which I was able to identify as: 583771 Johnson Evinrude OMC Round Plug Internal Engine Wiring Harness 413-3771. This would imply a 1989-90 wiring harness based on parts suppliers. I'll keep refining my search.

Johnson 70 VRO extermal harness question.

My recently purchased motor is a 1989-90 Johnson 70 VRO. What other years external wiring harness will fit my round plug internal harness? One did not come with the motor so I have to search for one.

Further research on cowling decals verifies this is a 1989-90 model. Sorry, I should have done more research before asking the question.

If you are talking about the red round plug that was made for about 20 yrs.

Controls for newly purchased outboard.

My newly purchased 1989-90 Johnson 70 VRO did not come with shifter controls/box. What other years of controls should work with my motor?
