Trying to identify the year, model # and horse power of my motor that I just recently purchased. The motor mount has been replaced, for unknown reason, with what appears to be a Evinrude mount. With not having the original mount, I have no serial number or model number.

The hood is not the original. I had the motor serviced and the repair guy had a hood that fit. The other one was cracked and had no decals to identify it. This hood has decals on it, but should probally not be considered when judging the age and hp of motor.

Would you be able to tell me what the original color/color code and what the decals were like for this motor? Looking for both the green and white paint. I would love to restore it. It runs really good for a older motor.

Thanks for any possible help that you have to offer. The number on the plug under the hood is J2826931 as shown in picture, if that is any help at all. If you would have any pictures of this model/year, I would love to have them as a reference.

I have a few more pictures if that would help.

It is either a 20 or 25 horsepower, c. late 1960s (1967 or later). A dealer may be able to cross reference the serial number on your block plug to nail down a specific year.

Or you can try Evinrude customer service with the number from the disc. They helped me. Tried several dealers first with no help. Best of luck. Rick.

Thanks for the advise. I will give Evinrude a call. Their website is no help at all when dealing with older motors. Hopefully better luck over the phone.
