Identifying older OMC outdrive

I have a 22ft Reinell of 1974 vintage, with a 165hp OMC outdrive.This is the electric shift model.Is there an easy way to determine the series (400/800 etc) or is this a drive of a different era? Second to that,is the transom cutout (bellows type),a standard size or are the later models smaller.

Is there a plate on the outdrive with a bunch of numbers. I would suggest gettting the SELOC manual for the OMC outdrives. A local boat shop would be able to tell also. Is it working, broken or not sure. I was able to rebuild my outdrive by myself using the manual and only had to call the Snap-On tool guy once...<br /><br />Al...

Did try to find some sought of identification plate but not sure where to look.The boat is not close to a local dealer and may end up having to trailer it in for some experienced inspection.The boat has not been used for 4years and needs some TLC before an attempt at using it.Thought it would be a good idea to replace seals and gaskets before using it.

I have a Seloc (after market) service/repair manual that covers the 1964 thru 1981 OMC stern drive models. Cover is damaged but inside is in very good condition. Yours for $10.00<br />We closed our dealership and I still have many parts in stock for these older engines that I will sell for 1/2 of the mfg. suggested list price. i beleave it is a 400 stinger there is a break in 1978 they went to a hyd,shift
