Identifying Stator 9 or 16 amp

I have a 1987 merc 70 HP and would like to put a voltage regulator on it but not sure how to tell if the stator is a 9 amp or 16 amp. s/n is OB175091 and only numbers I can read on stator is 39B-2778A1Q but numbers are smuged and hard to read. It looks like in the parts section if you replace the ritifier with a ritifier/regulator you have to have a 9 or 16 amp version ?

Here is the stator for your engine, see item 9:

Mercury & Mercruiser Parts, FLYWHEEL AND STARTER MOTOR, 70/75/80/90 H.P. (3 CYLINDER)

It is a 9 amp.

See first one at second row from the bottom.

My 1979 70 HP is a 9 amp stator as well

Other way is black vs red. My 90ELPT0 has the red 16 amp.
