Purchased a pair of 7.5 wizards at auction. sellers dad passed away and couldnt tell me much about them. He thought they were made in the mid fifties. after cleaning carb one fired up and ran. However had to make a bowl gasket for carb and diaghram was dried up and cracked. would like to find carb kit. saw some pictures of an outboard that just like it and caption said it was a later model scott built motor, Is that Mcculluch??? Wouldnt that mean it was made at a later date than I was given? would like to locate repair / user manual heres the #,s I found on it / tag#173 1490 A block#3825-1881 carb Carter model N#2679S B9 Appreciate any info you may be able to provide.
PS. I I fired up and ran this motor for 10-15 min on a 50.1 fuel mix but i have seen some info on these pages indicating a much richer mixture is needed like 3/8-1/2 pint per gallon on some models. does that apply to this one????
Anyways thanks for the help and Im glad I found this site its amazing how much info's here its just gonna take a while to go thru all of it. LOL

Your motor was made by Scott-McCulloch. The numbers you gave don't help much, but McC built them for Western Auto 1959-64 The 3825-1881 on the block says that particular part was first used on a Scott-Atwater model 3825 (1952). But that doesn't say how many years they used that same part.

EDIT: Well yes it does..sort of. I'd say you have a 1959. I say that because I believe the 1960 was the little low-profile motor. Be happy, be glad.

EDIT, EDIT: I just looked, are you sure that part number isn't 3325-1881? 33xx is 7.5hp, 38xx is 10hp.

mix it 24:1 untill you find out for sure. plugs are cheaper than pistons! .....and a bit of seafoam added to your fuel will help clean the internals up a bit.

It probably originally was 16:1, but I run my Scott at 24:1. If it tears up at that, it was going to tear up anyway.

now I can try to locate a repair manual on it.

It's not a factory service manual but the link below will get you to a free online public library that has lots of service info scanned for old motors.

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=393281

LOGIN as directed then drill down to: Small Engines, Marine/Boat Motors, McCulloch and Scott 7-1/2HP (1955-1959).

Good luck with that great old motor!
