There's about 12 miles from the rapids up river to the falls down river, with a lot of wide bays up to a mile wide.
Those butt-heads are making huge waves in the narrows and of course in the most congested/populated areas
I don't even notice the PWC's anymore...

In the pic I circled there 2 favorite play areas.

Is the water in those areas normally smoother (aside from the wakes that they're producing) than out in the more wide open areas? If it's anything like the lake we boat on, that's the case and that's the reason the boarders are riding there.

Keep in mind you don't own the water, and their chosen activities are just as valid as yours. Chances are they are finding the wind/chop protected waters to get a smooth ride.

I was about to post the same thing! Most non-watersports people think that wakeboards like getting bounced around in chop, so why would they need to go to the smoothest area... Based on what the OP's picture shows, it looks like they are in the areas that are most likely to be smooth, the other areas are probably so choppy it is unusable for watersports.

Long story short, are they more than 100 feet from shoreline? Other than that, what they are doing is legal, even if you don't like it.

They are looking for smooth water its nothing personal.

Most of the time true water sports people are very respectful remember the boats and gear they have are fairly pricey.

No, they're not.
At the west end that I circled the river is only 200-300' across and they just go back and forth on the same 1/2 mile stretch.
When they turn around they're usually no more than 50' from shore.
One bonehead put my 15' tiny halfway up on my dock.
They just circle around totally oblivious to other boats traveling on the river.
They're not even locals... mind you, if they were there boats would probably not stay afloat overnight with the number of people they p-off all day long.

Re: Idiot wakeboarders

They do tend to be on the idot side, not all but most.

I realize it is thier water too but most of them are totally oblivious to anyone else on the water, out a few weeks ago on a small lake, maybe 3/4 miles wide, and these pin heads pick where I am fishing to go back and forth, back and forth and there are no other boats on the whole lake.

It is really hard to think they weren't jacking with me.

That is another reason I night fish, after the sun goes down all the jet fleas, skiers and wakers go to bed.

Sorry gentlemen...... I really do not one to single out one group on iboats against another........ would not be fair to have a division within our forum.

Possibly the title and topic should be water sports versus cruising, fishing or just being anchored within small areas.

Unless there are signs and regulations on special areas......... it will not stop.

So, please do not let this post turn into bashing of another segment.

Bob will climb off his soap box now ;)

+ if they were in my state....
Speeds exceeding 5 mph are illegal at all times in or within 30 yards of any vessel, harbor, marina, landing pier, fishing pier, anchorage or bathing beach.
this is a quote from boating regs in NE. don't sound like they would be in compliance with that either.

while i don't think an everyday happening. last weekend i went out and over nighted. there were a couple of fleas out into twilight. and worse yet some fella pulling a tuber, way past sunset. almost till real night. i could hardly see the guy on the tube. i wondered what would happen if he fell off. it was dark enough ya'd have had a hard time locating him, let alone someone else running over him if he'd fell off...

lot's of less that safe behavior at the lake sometimes... no idea what the op can do about his particular problem. other than let off steam on iboats... ;)

fwiw, i'm not fond of them ski boats either. mostly because of the large wake the throw off. + they usually have some crummy music blasting for all to here. usually not music i care for either... i just live and let live and rock and roll when their large wakes contact me... to bad some people aren't considerate of other people. but it does seem to be the norm some days... :(

to the op. maybe ya could take some pics of the creatons, along with the registration number of the offending boat. report it to your local leo? i'm not a fan of leo's, but maybe this will be your only recourse. i mean, they are damaging your property
One bonehead put my 15' tiny halfway up on my dock.
. and a skipper is responsible for his wake... i dunno. good luck for a peaceful time at the lake for you though..

Buying a boat equipped with ballast tanks to MAKE it sink deeper seems counter intuitive and downright unnatural to me.

some, but not all, hot-doggers of all kinds go to congested areas to draw attention to themselves. Did they also have bad metal music playing from big speakers on the tower? No different than the thump-de-bumps at the stoplight in town.

Ar sea or on land:
Go-fast = jacked up Camaro with headers
jet ski = crotch rocket
wake board = lifted jeep or pick-up
wake board with tunes = thump de bump

Re: Idiot wakeboarders

You know what I hate? When I'm pulled off on the shoulder of a country road to do some wildlife watching and these idiots out for a drive in the country in their cars drive by, scaring off the birds and chipmunks! I mean, there are freeways and other roads these jerks could drive on to get where they are going, but no, they just have to drive on the road that I've decided to use for my own purpose. Most of these idiots drive pickup trucks, convertibles, sports cars, Chevrolets and Fords. I find that considerate people like me, who drive Subarus, don't usually do this kind of thing.

Re: Idiot wakeboarders

Very tough to come up with a solution for everyone. I pull over for skiers and wakers and even tubers to preserve good water for them. I'm in no hurry, and if you have ever skied you know how cool glass is. Tubers are usually kids, so I always give them a wide berth. With that all said, I am sure if you have a dock this can get really old.

I was out on a night cruise a few weeks back. Idling by a popular fishing spot/dock. I shut off and drifted in the slight breeze about 70 ft. off the dock. I yelled to a couple of guys asking if they were having any luck. I had nothing to do, was hoping to strike up a conversation. They yelled at me to get the eff out of there. I am sure they thought I was messing up their fishing, but there were other boats near there heading to an adjacent launch ramp. Whatever, can't stress about keeping everybody happy. Won't work.

Re: Idiot wakeboarders

there are often conflicts between people who want to do different activities in the same area, and one affects the other. What I see more often is conflicts between people doing basically the same activity in the same area--like fishing boats interfering with each other.

You just can't complain about too many people in a public area. You can buy it, or go to Alaska

Oh, so they've bought the right to behave like jerks? I'll have to keep this in mind next time one of these respectful folks ruins my quiet morning of fishing.

Please relax. I think the point is the same as someone who makes a huge wake with a larger Cruiser. They paid for a big Cruiser and they're going to use it.

Re: Idiot wakeboarders

It all comes down to being considerate of others, or not. It seems to me the newer generations or younger folks are more likely to be the latter, but not always. If i'm fishin and somebody starts rocking me doin watersports I might be upset but try to deal w it or go somewhere else. If they are there when I arrive, I find a another spot. Close highspeed passes are another thing to me and I will let anybody know how I feel about that verbally and w gestures.

Look, there are jerks and there are those doing legit and legal water activities. The latter is not automatically the former just becuase you say so. They are entitled to use the peace and quiet for wake boarding as you are.

A non-jerk, however, will do what is reasonable not to interfere with another user's enjoyment--give as wide a berth as is safe and feasible, turn off the GD music, go to an equally suitable area. Tubers don't need glass so they should go out a ways; skiiers need glass but if the wind is up they just can't go. it's no different than the "you slow down when passing me fishing" gripe. It's all about sharing the road and being considerate--both ways.

Re: Idiot wakeboarders

I was just venting my frustration...
I won't call the leo. I have only seen them twice on this part of the river in the whole season so far and one of those was when they were searching for the body of a kid that killed himself cliff diving.
I'm one of the youngest residents in these neck of the woods and I'm in my early 40's.
Who do these wakeboarders think they're going to impress???
It would be like me taking my lifted truck on 48" tires to go cruise downtown or for some tuner to park his import outside a retirement home to play there big boom boom radios.
I'm not a prius driving bird watching tree huger.

I believe in 'Live and let live' but it has to go both ways...
I own a Harley, two diesel powered 4x4 pick-ups, a go fast boat.
But I try as best I can to stay invisible unless I'm at an event.
And I don't believe that these idiot wakeboarders represent all, they're probably novice at the sport.
