idle adjustment question?

Hello,
I have a 19' Baja 190tc with merc.MCM260 #6356454 carb #'s are MCM 260/270 1347-8292.I believe this is the q-jet correct?
I'm running about 1000 rpms which seems high.I've benn trying to find links here for adjusment procedures but am not having any luck.Is 1000 too high?and if so what should it be?

yes way too high.. there should be an idle speed screw on the side that you can adjust to bring the idle rpms down.. get yourself and OEM manual.. its got everything you need to know

Thats what I thought so I figure 700-800 sound good?

if you have a 260 you want 650-700 in forward gear..

its best to get a digital multimeter with RPM reading on it as your dash gauge will not be nearly as accurate.. can get them at auto parts store for like $40..
