Idle Adjustment

Heres a dumb question, but is adjusting the idle on a 1989 90 Johnson as simple as turning a screw, like an automotive carb?

The reason I ask is that my motor runs great, and idles fine, but it seems to be idling 50-100rpm lower in netural and in gear then what my manual says..

And for some reason I cant find anything about the idle adjustment in the manual

thanks,

Shane

Re: Idle Adjustment

An OEM shop manual will shown exactly what needs adjusting. It it isn't stalling in gear, I would just leave it alone.

Agree with Wild, if it idles in gear, leave it alone.

Re: Idle Adjustment

Thanks guys, thats what I was thinking...

I ordered a shop manual from ebay, and when I got it, it is a OMC manual, but for the whole year, not just per HP model. So mine may not show...or I missed it..

I will leave it be

Re: Idle Adjustment

If you haven't done it lately a decarb may help, follow the directions in the secret file with seafoam. My engine was idling ok but it would cough a little bit and occasionally stall when idling, other then that it ran great, I did a decarb and it idles much more smoothly and has yet to stall. Mine smoked for about 10 minutes the first time, 5 minutes the second, 5 minutes the third, and then a puff of smoke on the fourth and now its nice and clean and the pistons aren't black anymore.
