I rebuilt my carbs and did link and sync on a '96 88spl. Now I want to speed up my idle a little. Can anyone tell me how to do that. My manual is not very clear on this subject.

Red arrow points at what should be the idle screw.

What does it idle at now and where do you want it to? I have same engine engine that idles around 800 to 1000 in water and 1200 on muffs. I'm out of adjustment length on screw but it seems to do OK. No banging when put into gear and starts well and stays running

Your idle speed sounds a little high unless you have something else wrong with your mtr and the high idle is covering it up.

Mine idles around 600. runs ok but not great. The problem starts when I shift it into gear. It dies immediately when i shift to forward or reverse unless i shift very fast and give it A LOT of throttle for a few seconds. Also, no matter how warm the motor is or how long I have ran it during the day, I always have to use the throttle advance lever to start it. I have done a full carb cleaning and rebuild, and link and sync already. I think if i advance the idle a bit it may clear these issues up. Once it is in gear i can back the throttle down and it runs in idle ok without dying.
