idle help 1990 30hp johnson

Ok so here we go it may be an easy fix for some of you guys my motor will idle perfect as long as it is on muffs with the water hose but just as soon as it gets in the water it will not idle if you get it to idle long enough to get it into gear it will run fine as long as you want to go but as soon as you put it into neutral it dies and will not start back without starter fluid HELP!!!!

your idle speed is set too low. there is not any backpressure on the exhaust on muffs, set you idle on muffs at 1,000 rpms. then put the boat in the water, and fine tune the idle speed with the motor in gear. that is where you want it to idle.

Ok thanks for your help but here is a stupid question where is the idle speed adjustment I have adjusted the fuel needle on the carb but that and the cable are the only adjustments that I could find is there a secret screw somewhere

save yourself the trouble and get a manual.... will save you time and agony.. good luck
