Hi all,

Need a little advice please. This engine would die at idle and was very hard starting.

I pulled carbs, disassembled, soaked and cleaned everything. Reassembled and reinstalled.

While doing all that I found the supply fuel line from the tank fitting to the fuel pump to be bad. Replaced it as well. Also put new plugs in.

took it to the boat ramp, connected the tank, primed the bulb, pulled the choke and pulled the rope. Almost caught on the first pull - fired on the 3rd or 4th. Big improvement. Ran great and idled perfect.

Then a short bit later - minute or two - it coughed and when I brought it back to idle it died. Wouldn't start well or idle well after that.

I pulled plugs = not fouled at all, pefectly new still.

Then I noticed fuel coming from the lower carb. Could this have been caused by being backed in on steep ramp? (tank high than the engine)

If not that then I guess it's a stuck float or a sinking float - right? The float
'looked' fine on inspection and moved freely when I reinstalled it. I also adjusted the primary and secondary tabs that hold the needle per the manual.

Before I left the ramp I disconnected the fuel tank with the engine running - before the engine died of fuel starvation but after it had burned some of that fuel off - the rough running cleaned up and it idled well again. So I'm pretty positive that whatever the reason for the excess fuel that is why she's not running well at low speed.

I am really hoping it self corrects (draining the bowl frees the float or something) or the problem was simply caused by the steep angle at the ramp. Pulling those carbs is a major pain in the rear. Anyone have any tips for that? I had to pull the recoil starter, the distributor, the magneto, the front support plate, and it was still very difficult to access the port side nuts holding the carbs on. I can't beleive those nuts were put there without enough clearance for a socket...I had to have a crows foot on a u-joint on a wobbly to even move the lower port side nut. What a pain!

Thanks for the advice
