Idle mixture screw

Hi!!

Can any one tell me what the long screw with a spring and locking nut on the front of a 2bbl mercruiser carburettor is for.Its at the bottom of the carb just above the base.Im trying to find the idle mixture screw.

Thats it.
Im getting rich gas smelling fumes from exhaust at idle.Iv checked the fuel pump diaphram thats ok,all the spark plugs look fine well a brownish redy couler. Cant smell petol in oil and have cleaned air filter and its had a new fuel filter.
So i was thinking perhaps idle mixture.

Any thoughts please!!

oh sorry its a 1990 mercruiser 4.3 v6
