Re: idle problem

That might work. I would make sure the carb(s) are clean. Your not sucking in air from the fuel lines...check connections. I had the same problem and I had a bad fuel line connection, ball not staying hard.

Good Luck.

Re: idle problem

Cable adjustment is rarely the cause of idle problem. The only adjustment on the cable to make it the proper length for connection to the linkage on the engine. Idle speed is set with an adjustment screw on the engine. Without a tach you (nor we) have any idea if its idling too slow. If your control box has a fast idle lever on top raise it when starting the engine. No need to remove the engine cover.

Re: idle problem

Set your idle adjustment screw at the engine a little tighter [clockwise].

You do that on the water, at operating temperature, in neutral, but with the warm up lever all the way down.

Adjust it until the motor doesn't die with the warm up lever down.

Re: idle problem

if it runs better with the cover off it could be that there is an exhaust leak under the cowl and starving the engine out. The cover off will allow air and the motor to breathe better. Probably not a problem but a thought.
