Idle Problems

I am helping a guy out with his 1985 Mariner 30HP Rope Start outboard. Currently the motor runs fina at accelerated speeds but while idling or trolling the motor serges and will not maintain a constant speed. <br /><br />Any ideas on the solution or where to start?

ask him if he has taken good care of the fuel system. if not, clean card, add new gaskets when putting back together. should work fine.

Sounds like a good place to start. I don't think he had any work ever done on the carb. The other thing I was wondering is that if there is air getting in from around the carb/engine block seal that this could also be the problem at low speed.<br /><br />I'll relace the seals and install a carb kit when I get the parts.<br /><br />Cheers
