I am in need of some advice on how to increase my idle rpm's for my 200hp Johnson Ocean Runner. The motor is the carburated type.

Is the best way to adjust the cable that enters the cowling using the threaded nut?

Where should the idle be running in nuetral?

Where should the idle be when in gear at minimum throttle.

Any advice would be apprciated

Thanks, Pat

Re: Idle RPM Adjustment on 200hp Johnson

The idle needs to be about 700 in gear. 650 would be better. Once all the linkages are set and everything is where it's supposed to be (including the throttle shaft connectors under each middle throttle body) the idle can be adjusted by either advancing or retarding the idle timing. depending on what year motor you have there is an adjuster under the starboard side of the flywheel sticking out over the carbs. On some models there is an adjustment screw under the flywheel on the port side too.
