Last year I had my motor guy slow my idle down in an attempt to get my 115 Johnson to troll as slowly as possible.

It's too slow. It stalls sometimes when trolling and almost always when shifting forward-reverse or vice-versa.

I'm going to bump the idle up some. What general RPM should it be at on the hose as a good starting place?? I know I'll most likely have to tweek it in gear in the water.

650 to 700. I have a 1987 90HP V4, and it idles at about 675 in gear. I have a crossflow, Loopers dont idle as smooth.

So 650 to 700 on the hose in neutral will be about the same (675) in the water and in gear? Just making sure. I thought the RPMs would have dropped some in the water and spinning.

Also........ what is the difference between a "crossflow" and a "looper"?? Is one better than the other?? I have seen both referred to in here. But I don't know the difference. How do I tell which mine is??
